youth bows do not require that much. i would look up archery clubs in your area. but if you want to do a backyard deal, straw bales will stop a kiddie bow. 10 yards, a good backstop and a tennis ball hanging from a string = hours of kid entertainment.
if you have a good hillside as protection, you can buy a store target that is maybe 2.5'x2.5' for around $45. kids will miss a target that sized regularly, so a good hillside is key.
