All of Porsche's children are lovable, even the 912s. Each progressive iteration of the 911 has its strengths and maybe even weaknesses. The early cars are lighter, more nimble, more seat-of-the-pants, yoke between your legs, barnstorming kind of thing. But they are also noisier and arguably finicky and probably require more regular attention. Later cars are quieter, smoother and more powerful, with more amenities, but they are also heavier and leave the pilot with a feeling of disassociation from the road environment.

And Jack knows that there is at least one group that likes duckbills. Other duckbills. I happen to feel that the SC is an excellent combination or compromise of features. It is not too much heavier than the early cars but it is much more civilized. A superior daily driver with nearly the HP and torque of the Carreras but less weight. From here, I lean toward the early cars. Sorry my SCWDP friends, but those early cars are prettier. I could also do without power sunroof, power mirrors and power drivers' window (power passenger window is handy) and the 100 lbs they probably represent.

In fact, a fire-breathing 1800-lb early car with every thing gone but the seat, steering wheel and engine would be a nice second 911. In the meantime, I am delighted with my daily driver (when I get her engine back together) '83 SC.

So, it's a personal preference thing.
