all new cars have been water based for a while - my 1999 MB ML450 was water based as was my 2000 Boxster S

the paints are (now) pretty durable; dunno re difficulty of working with them

they have a nice quality in that they will produce the most amazing flatness I've ever seen - not even a hint of orange peel or ripple I swear i used to just sit there and stare at the silver on the Boxster sometimes from up close. It was truly mesmerizing.

of course, that was done at the factory.
