This is why i usually knock first. Once they know you're there for lawful purposes, if they shoot you it's murder.
I also wear a shirt with giant yellow letters that reads "RECOVERY AGENT"
(Of course i have a gun too- and a class IIIA vest if i feel especially paranoid about a job. And a bigass flashlight, and pepper spray, etc, etc)
