For home defense, you're better off with something bigger. With a .45 you don't have to worry about over penetration and it has a very good one shot/stop rate. My bedside defenses are a SIG P220 (.45) and a Mossberg Mariner (12 ga.). For the car I usually have a SIG P239 in .40. In cold weather I often carry a SIG P229 or Pro 2340, both in .357SIG to make sure it can penetrate the bad guy's layered clothing. Can't go wrong with a Glock, but be sure to shoot one first. I can shoot my SIG's like a pro, but could never make a Glock shoot straight.
