Unless you have the equipment (vacuum pump and gages) and know how to use them, take it in. You might avoid damage due to over fill, moisture and air will be removed from the system. Moisture and air can really mess things up. Leaks can be checked and the proper operation of the expansion can be verified. Things like the receiver drier or expansion might need to be replaced. They are not real expensive. When done the system may work!
