I am curious why a compound bow to learn on over a recurve? Was it something the people at the archery club recommended?

It's because we're from the South. We're not caught up in "the right approach", only the approach that works.
seriously, it's because the Genisus is a zero let-off, infinate draw-length, variable draw-strength bow. What does all that mean? It means she can't outgrow the bow. In fact, it's so flexible everyone in the family can shot this bow. Everyone from her six-year-old brother to me. And the bow is low maintenance to boot. We don't have to worry about unstringing it to store it.
Bottom line: It means she's having fun. And that means she'll be more inclined to stick with it.
