2.7 First Start ?
OK folks-
the 2.7 (actually a 2.9) went back into the 69 911t after a careful redo on the leaking throughbolts. Per the recommendation of the folks at Ollie's, I dressed and lightly countersunk the holes in the case, and then used the green o-rings and rtf for the install. Did each separately and very carefully.
Two issues on the first start attempt:
1) The motor fufs, pops, and bangs, rather than starts. The spark plug wires are installed consistent with the instructions in Wayne's book and are in the correct order (I believe). I also believe I did the static timing on the distributor correctly--line on the rotor lined up with the line on the distributor housing at number 1 TDC. Did I get it reversed 180 degrees somehow ? Any tricks to be sure it is correct ?
2) There is still one leak. Not huge, but problematic. It appears to be on left bank, on the case. Return tubes are dry, and the oil pipe connection is dry. It doesn't appear to be coming from the head or valve covers. I will take some photos when I get it leaking some more. Thoughts ?
