Need to troubleshoot my horns as they aren't working.

Can someone help me by describing in detail the mechanical and electrical flow of the horn system.

For example:

Pressing the horn button touches metal on metal, closing the cicruit that runs from the wire going through the steering wheel to....

Yeah I know, sounds like a stupid question, but I need to understand what I'm troubleshooting before I rip everything apart.
