Hey Smitty, Pazuzu gave you a great answer. It might also help to draw pictures of these problems (I'm more of a visualization guy - must watch cartoons! ). You know, "x" on the horizontal axis and "F(x)" on the vertical axis. Then, just draw lines, points, whatever and see how the equations look. If more than one value of F(X) at any point, x, then, it's not a function.
