Before my 1997 993 S, I had a 1986 911 cab. Maintenance is definately more involved (2 oil filters, 12 spark plugs etc) but definately doable. I've done every possible maintenance item on my car and my brothers '96 cab and also changed out both suspensions without too much difficulty.
