There are a few tech groups that I check on from time to time - they are mostly in the REC hierarchy. Some groups still stay active, but are definitely not what they used to be.
Pictures are a huge load in the alt.binaries hierarchy...
...as is also piracy of MP3, DVD, software, and console games. Much of the buzz on the net is that blocking of this hierarchy has as much or more to do with the piracy as it does with the child porn issue.
