FYI the method worked yesterday on my stock 81SC engine with 964 cams that were reground from original SC profile cams by John Dougherty. He said he took about 0.002 off the base circle to do the regrind.

I say it worked because I double checked with the standard method at the elephant's foot with a 0.1mm shim tool.
