Simplex - there's a blast from the past.
While I appreciate older bikes (in grad school I commuted on a Mondia), if I'm going to dice it on the road with cars I want very good brakes and responsive handling. In general you don't get that from a vintage bike. I don't do STI (barcons, baby), but index shifting and stout brakes are important to me. ymmv.
