I have a problem with one of my highbeams as well. Sometimes it just stops working.
I finally nailed the problem down to the fuse. The fuse doesn't blow, but it seems that the fuse holder loses connection. The solution was to double up the metal fuse prong width and jam it in the fuse holder. I just ripped apart another fuse and used the prongs from it. Haven't had any problems since.
You can try to see if this is the problem by removing the fuse for the highbeam, and inserting a piece of wire as a jumper between the two terminals in the fuseblock.
