My V8 doesn't really leak either. I recently developed a leak at the rear differential. My Cat did go about 3 years ago, but 11 years out of a catalytic converter isn't terrible. The biggest mechanical problem with my car was a transmission pin that fell out and necessitated a rebuild of the transmission after 9 years of use.
During the winter I sure wished I had a hard top for mine, but in the summer I was happy to take the top off. I was living in Durango Colorado most of the time that I owned the car. So leaking tops was never really a problem. Rain in Durango is fairly rare. It does have a nagging leak from the upper corners where the top, doors, and windshield all meet. There is a hole there the size of a finger. My top was replaced with the later belt and rail system used on later D-90's though.
It is certainly not a car for the highway or commuting for that matter.
