Swim lessons at Santa Rosa’s Finley Aquatics Center had an unexpected drop-in visitor late“All of a sudden this pelican comes in and lands in the pool. The kids went crazy,” said Rob Sprinkle, whose 7-year-old son was taking a lesson and whose wife, Michelle, grabbed her camera to snap the shot.
The pelican eventually jumped onto the concrete deck where “an avid fisherman grabbed it by its bill, tucked it underneath his arm and petted it to calm it down,” said Ross Teter, an assistant activities specialist.
Once the bird’s health was judged to be good, Teter said the pelican was taken to a pond elsewhere on the Finley Park site and released.Monday afternoon, apparently for a refresher course.
Just missing the wrench and hat.
