Go up to Cross Creek between the pier and Pepperdine - lots to do around there.
A good dinner spot is the Sage Room on Kanan-Dume and PCH.
Remember, the farther west you go (Malibu is south-facing), the earlier everything closes. So you better get out early for your night on the town.
