Unfortunately, many Americans believe that space exploration accounts for up 25% of federal spending. NASA's budget is currently less than one percent of the entire US budget. I believe it's currently at .6%. Not all of NASA's budget goes to manned spaceflight. There are unmanned missions as well aeronautical R&D and planetary sciences that fall under NASA's jurisdiction. Aeronautical R&D benefits us nearly everyday when we schlep aboard a 737 headed to Disneyworld.
Tell me what would be achieved by redirecting that small amount into other programs?
