Actually, Socal did get a TS/TD while I lived in San Diego. It came up the Sea of Cortez and crossed. It wasn't worth much by that point.
You'll never get a good hurricane, since the water is basically too cold. 85-90F surface temps in the gulf intensify these things.
The Funny thing, we're going to have a beautiful day today, just before it hits. We have a lot of unprepared people. I've filled the cars with gas and will have 20-30 gallons of gas soon for the generator.
