On 9-11-01, Portland, Oregon megadealer Ron Tonkin found himself stuck in Washington, D.C. This guy owns multiple car dealerships, including Ferrari, Maserati, etc. thru his "Gran Turismo" dealership. He was in D.C. for an auto dealer's meeting, he the president of the group.
So, with all flights cancelled, he did what any auto dealer would do...contacted one of his dealership buddies, bought a car, and he & his wife drove home.
A few days later, his Toyota dealership had a Camry for sale with a few thousand miles on it.
When I read the column telling this tale in the Portland paper, his selection made sense to me.
