OK, so somebody ported the heads on the "S" to around the original "S" spec. Isn't that what you would expect?
Porting only one side would be a giant mistake, the airflow would never balance and the engine won't run right.
Who would use 12mm ATF nuts on the intake studs? The FACTORY. These make it easier to get the intake off and the torque's not that high really. If some subsequent turkey rebuilder used replacement nuts, that's where the 13mm ATF nuts come from. What is the marking on these fasteners? It should be barely visible on one side of the nut, this will tell you what is original and what is not. Ditto the other engine fasteners.
Anyway, what are the engine type numbers stamped on the cases? But you are right, only a teardown will tell.
