I'm quite happy with my Yamaha FZ1, which I paid $5K for last December with 6K miles on it. It's an '03 with pretty good ergonomics, gets high 40's for mileage, and is bulletproof mechanically. It's also scarry fast (141 hp at the crank), but I use it for commuting mostly. I don't think many people are familiar with them, so there doesn't seem to be a lot of demand which may mean prices haven't gone too high like some others.
