Had he stayed retired, for the next five years, he would have been the reigning king of Green Bay. After that, because there would some distance from the stinging losses he caused the fans of so many other teams, he would have been a sort of ambassador to the NFL--the ex-player that everyone loves and looks upon fondly.
I'm a Bears fan. For the better part of two decades, I've hated Brett Favre with a burning passion. It's only been in the last year or two I have had to admit that he is: 1) a class act, and 2) probably the greatest QB of all time.
His recent moves in the past two weeks have called both of those thing into question.
On the other hand, I can understand how when you spend 17 years doing something and being the best of the best, how it can be hard to walk away.
