Not to belabor the point, but the Berlin-Rome KdF-Wagen is referred to by Ludvigsen as the Type 60K10, a special bodied Type 60 (Beetle) based on the Type 64 design that the government would not sell Porsche the parts to build due to public ownership of the Volkswagenwerk. Ludvigsen says that the Berlin-Rome car was separately financed by Ley and the Labor Front for the Porsche design office to build as a publicity project for the KdF-Wagen. This is probably why that car is not acknowledged as a "true" Porsche by the factory, although they usually call it a Type 64 in their
PR rather than a Type 60K10. Ferry didn't need a "mother-may-I" from the Nazis to build 356-001 and that's probably why it's considered by the factory to be the first true "Porsche" sports car.
