Sounds like the 996tt is what you are looking for, esp. if the wife just wants to jump in the car and run the ac. A 964t is nice, a 993tt is even nicer, but out of your price range. I had a 996 Carrera and the ac was very good. The larger size makes a difference when going on trips with passengers.
