Take a drive on the Oregon coast - be sure to include Highway 99 from 101 and turning inland. It takes you thru the Redwoods. Keep going and head to Crater Lake. Then swing over to Bend (everything in the world to do there) and go to Smith Rock.
Get a little of everything - forest, coast, mountains, desert.
