I would have no problem riding that in L.A., I've owned several like it. (/5 or /6). That said, it's more of an around-town bike than a long-distance cruiser, especially if it's a 4-speed. The drum brakes work sufficiently well, you do not ride this bike in such a fashion to boil the brakes. They have decent stopping power.
It's a beauty, $6k seems high but then I'm not up on pricing these days for /5s. Is that what they're going for? I bought one, (R75/5), in MN. in the mid-90s for $1300 in close to showroom condition. It was a steal, granted, I sold it for double that after riding it all summer. Probably should have kept it, but that's life...
