I don't have any information about microwaves changing food in a way that is detrimental to our health.
But, although it might make him feel safer waiting 10 seconds before opening the oven in that time the microwaves would have travelled almost 2 million miles.
Since microwaves aren't very inclined to bounce around inside the oven about 3.7 billion times after it's turned off, I'd say he's safe
