The immigrants from 100 years ago to whom he refers, came here and became Americans, they did not demand accommodations. My father's parents would beat their children if they even heard they were speaking German outside the house.
"We are Americans, we speak English" is what my Grandfather told them when he took the razor strap to them.
My Grandmother was very proud to have 5 stars in the window during WW2(5 sons in the military is what this indicated, then and now). Every one of my uncles came back
