Tech for Newbies?

Greetings yall. I just got my 88 911 in July, and am getting ready to do my first DE on 10/25, a one-day with SCCA at Talladega Grand Prix Raceway.

I've printed out the tech sheets for several events I want to do in the next few months, and...I'm already stuck. I am a total novice to car stuff, and I will just embarrass myself by saying I'm not sure I could even point out half of these things on my car!

OK so there you have it.

I wonder if any of you more knowledgeable and experienced folks would be willing to participate in a "Tech for Newbies" thread? And just go through a basic tech posting pictures of the various components and what shape they need to be in to pass tech. Probably this would start with a list of basic tools needed to tech a vehicle at home, such as jack stands, floor jack, and X, Y and Z in the tool box and whatever else a newbie like me would not even think about.

I've tried to find some local folks to buddy up with, but it's just not happening. I do have a friend at work who has good general car knowledge & skills, and after looking at my tech sheets, he is willing to go thru my car with me, but I don't think he's ever touched a Porsche before. So I thought I would give this a shot here and see if there's any interest out there in participating in such a thing.

What say you all?
