Snakes won't eat enough to keep the mice/voles away in your situation. Even my lazy cat is bringing me about an animal per day, no shortage of critters here.

Invest in a few live traps and some poison bait. I've caught 6 woodchucks in the last couple of months with one trap. Oh yeah, and over twenty raccoons and one skunk!
