Non-venomous snakes are just as effective at killing rodents as are venomous ones. No need for any snakes that aren't indigenous to the area. But they don't eat too much. Maybe once a week in a really target-rich environment and they can go a year without a meal. Traps or a .22 plinker are what you need. I'd be worried traps or poison if you have pets. When I was a kid our Great Dane got a trap on his foot and it was a real mess.
