What you need is a "havahart" trap. I have one- this is a trap where the end closes when your animal steps the wrong way. I use this on the iguanas at my house.

-Typical week in Florida? I take about two iguanas. Since rats are common in Florida, I also put out a smaller "havahart" trap with peanut butter to get these. I usually kill 10 iguanas and 3 or 4 rats each month between the two traps.

How do you kill animals in Havahart traps? I just submerge them in the canal behind my house. A rat can only hold its' breath for 45 seconds....then it stops moving. 15 seconds later, I pull the trap out of the canal and open the door, allowing the rodent to fall in the the water. Good.

Rats spread diseases-

The damn iguanas behind my house are another story. I catch these with banana in a LARGE havahart trap, and I kill them with my pellet gun. Crossman 760; a weak gun, but if you put .177 hollow-point pellets in it and pump it up 15 times, it will do the trick. I've killed iguanas with one pelet, but that's rare; Generally I kill the bastard after two or three hits-

In any case, I'm going after the varmits behind my house. Any suggestions? Iguanas are TOUGH! You need a .22 WMR in order to kill these things instantly. I cannot fire a real "firearm" in the subdivision....
