I agree with DD. My gut feeling is that the "real" value is around 8500 or so, but that's just a WAG rather than the result of any hard data or analysis.
The overvaluation/overpricing of stuff started with housing and extended to virtually everything. It'll be a long time to correct.
We're still quite a ways from any real bottom. There will be some other ugly days, don't worry.
