I have an 82sc. I have had three major times when I had serious backfires that popped my pop-off valve. Once I reversed two ignition wires when changing the rotor, oops. Another time I had a torn intake manifold gasket. And the other time was when my CDI unit went out. I have cleaned my wur and adjusted my pressures in the past, this has helped with reducing smoke at warm up, proper idle speeds, but no change in drivability for me. Hope this helps.
