Yeah, they tried that "reasoning" with the new stadium in DC. They levied a new tax on businesses inside the District to finance the stadium, claiming the stadium would increase business for everyone. Sorry, but a liquor store 10 miles away from the stadium and 10 feet away from the MD state line (where liquor is cheaper anyway) is not gonna make a dime off that stadium. Those are the folks who get the shaft. And don't forget the real estate frenzy that always occurs wherever they build a new stadium. Lots of apartment buildings tossing people out because they can either convert to luxury condos or sell out to the city for big $$. Not saying there's anything wrong with good business. But lots of other industries get no handouts from the local gov't.
