Keep the humans playing the games, but use the machines to make the calls. It does work well in tennis. The calls should be as quick and accurate as possible and not interfere with the game.
Such a system would bring unemotional fairness to important judgments and require the humans to win or lose on their own merits.
I'm just not so nostalgic about the referee/umpire concept, but I do understand that many folks view these officials as part of the game. I don't.
