Hey Shaun,
Both areas are pretty safe. Took my bike to the city for years. Only problem I ever had was getting rear ending by a cab while I sat at a red light. Sent my bike across the intersection and me landing on the hood.
My biggest concern would be actually finding a parking spot. They nail you for parking on a sidewalk so don't even think about it!( ask me how I know...) If you are that worried, theres allot of parking garages and lots around. Not cheap, but secure at least.
