Fast 951:

What do you do when only one cylinder is detonating?

An individual cylinder knock controller can address that automatically, without robbing power from the non knocking cylinders.

A customer was running a 12 psi pulley on his BMW Mini "S". Number three spark plug had tiny black specs, which are signs of the porcelain starting to melt. A temporary solution was to run a three step colder plug. Tuning the engine for no knock with a flash tool cost twenty HP, compared to installing one of our systems. He is now running a 14 psi pulley, 25° timing, and 12.7:1 A/F. Zero to sixty times decreased by half a second.

He has access to an eddy current dyno, and made a long slow pull in 5th gear at the rate of 100 RPM per second, from 900 RPM to 6500. The controller removed a max of six degrees from one cylinder. The dyno was equipped with knock amplifying headphones, and the operator could not detect any knock. With the knock controller unplugged, the engine would detonate below 3500 RPM.
