Not everyone sits the same distant from the wheel some are taller and some are shorter. Also not all used the Durant, most did. Some use the Talbot mirror which did not use the same holes as the Durant.
Just center punch one of the holes from the inside the door and then put the bottom gasket centered on it and mark the other hole. That will allow you too match the bolts on the bottom.
As far as the passenger side mirror with the Durant and the Talbot. I doubt that you will be able to see much from the drivers side. Maybe with the later larger size Durant. Mainly it would be just for looks. Generally for racing they would be farther up on the fender, in the old days. However, who watches their mirrors when racing especially on the right with a left hand steering car.
