I lived there for five years (89-94) and go back often to visit friends. Yup, winters can be rough. I don't remember summers being too bad though. I think it was about the same as where I grew up in NJ. Property taxes are pretty steep there. Sorta like TX, you'll be amazed how much house you can get for your money and then stunned when you see your taxes almost equal your P&I payment. They can have terrible traffic too depending on where you live. For some reason, Pittsburgh drivers think the road become more narrow when you go through a tunnel. So they all slow down for them, though I don't even understand why one would slow down IF the road really became more narrow. Some of the burbs are very nice. Lots of sketchy folks in some of the urban areas, Oakland, downtown. I wouldn't live there for all the money in the world. But it's fun to visit for homecoming or Rush concerts at Star Lake Ampitheatre (I refuse to call it by its corporate name.).
