The first car I bought was a rough '67 in green. I paid $1000 in the summer of 1982. It was drivable but had rotting seats and carpet, poor tires, several dents and a bad Earl Scheib repaint in the past. During the next year I did a suspension and brake overhaul, new tires and repainted the wheels, cosmetic restoration and repaint to the original Java Green, new running boards, improved the interior - added seat belts and other things. Added high back seats. Replaced the scratched door window glass.
Over the next four years I kept improving it. Added a Blaupunkt amplifier and stalk equalizer to complement the Blau head unit. Installed a rebuilt transmission - it wasn't any quieter. I rebuilt the engine in 1987 - just because.
I sold it for a song in 1989 - I don't think I got my asking price. I saved the sale sign I made:
My father-in-law owned a Bug when he moved to this area 46 years ago. My wife remembers the family taking trips with one of her now five siblings in the "Way Back". He bought a 1975 Targa some years later and now that car is mine.
Thread about my Targa The Targa has gone through many of the same steps - it doesn't have as nice a stereo in it though!
