IMO, you probably didn't "have" to pull it then, but "chose" to (you could have just driven off). Hell, I've spent a fair amount of time hanging out in Charlottesville (music shows, etc.) over the years...I couldn't imagine "carrying" in a college town
. I think "carrying" tends to make one more "macho" than most situations call for, but that's just me.
