That is just not correct.
I'm no fan of GM, but ...
RUF has only built a few cars.
GM had 2000 of them on the road 10 years ago, the EV1;

GM will have another electric car in production (mass production) next year, the Volt:

Ford has had hybrids on the road for years.
Also, no one, even RUF, does it for altruistic reasons, they do it because there's a chance they can make a profit directly (sales) or indirectly (
PR reasons).
