I've used a THX set up disc. I followed each set up feature to the letter and the picture was way too dark when I was done.
I think this TV is probably just on its way out. Frankly I'd rather hit the power button and find it dead than have it suffer through this slow decline. It still has a pretty decent picture as long as you're not watching something very dark. Our house has a built in cubby that fits this TV perfectly. The downside is that if it does need to be replaced 42" is as large as we can go without remodeling the entire wall. Going with a flat screen will involve a stand and moving the TV back into the cubby, where the Mitsubish sits right out on the edge. I know this TV was still being sold a few years ago. I'd love to find a nearly new one just like it if the other one dies. Can't imagine it would cost much used.
