Anyone know of a straight-axle 944

Has anyone built, or heard of a straight axle 924? As in using a live rear axle from say...a small pickup truck(s10, nissan, ranger, etc)? I think this car with a standard engine/trans in the front with a driveshaft to an axle set up would make for an awesome drag car and something that removes most of the original cars limits power and abuse wise. Or even an alternative, a rear sub frame from a japanese car like an rx7? with a rear diff, front trans and drive shaft? BTW, i was thinking of using a mitsubishi 4g63 or a toyota 3sgte. both are bullet proof, can make a ton of power and take a lot of high rpm high boost abuse, and are some what cheap. let me know if anyone has a thought on this. Or contrary to me, how much power can the porsche setup really handle, with something like a 944 turbo rear or whatever else they have to offer? and how hard is it to adapt a different motor too using the existing clutch/torque tube and rear mounted transmission?
