Its probably the sunroof gears grinding on the drive cable. Replace the gears, they are easily purchased from the dealer. Then check and adjust the microswitches on the motor. This usually happens when the cable is allowed to travel to far and chews the gears up. With the correct adjustment the motor stops driving the cable at just the right height. This is an easy reapir and absolutely a DYI.
