A few years ago I had a pregnant woman pushing a stroller with a baby in it walk right in front of my 911 in a parking lot.
I going about 15 mph (or less) and was watching for people walking out of the hotel entry (vinyl record show). These two women were just standing at the back of a mini van just gabbing to each other, neither look in either direction and I was less than 20 feet away when they darted for the hotel doors.
I hit the brakes with a jolt, they never even knew I was there and did not look over as I stopped just a few feet away. I was freaking out.
I think that with the engine and noise in the back of the car, the typical acoustic "heads up" factor just is not there.
