The switch is in the Transmisson (but only for an AT - no switch on MT). There is a connector to the LHS of the transmission forward area - this the 1st connection to the internal switch - then this routes up into the forward part of the tire well (behind a plastic plate on some models. Possibilities of switch failure, selector alignment issue or connection problem at either point. But check at the relay first - it may in fact be OK.
